Nature: A Deeper Wisdom
Just a few days into the week and I've already spoken to three clients - healing artists & therapists - whose training programs came apart quite suddenly due to bankruptcy or ethics issues. π¬ All three were enrolled in year-long facilitator programs that cost between $12-18K. All three were devastated at "wasting all that time and money... for nothing." π€¦π»ββοΈ
"But did you learn anything in the many months you've been in the program so far?" I asked.
"Well, yes, the education was really good and I learned a lot, but now I can't get a certificate."
So the next question I asked them was: Were they approaching their training to learn and attain ability & skill in a field, or were they really looking to obtain validation & approval?
β¨ When did the goal of education become less about wisdom, skill and mastery and more about a gold star, a certificate and permission from strangers devoid of experience?
β¨ When was true mentoring & apprenticeship replaced by largely meaningless pieces of paper or letters behind a name?
β¨ When did embodied experience & true mastery become replaced by the shallow appearance of such?
In the healing arts, true mastery comes from being and experiencing, giving and receiving, listening and holding space. It is only partially a conceptual and intellectual exercise of memorization and recognition; it cannot be wholly learned any other way but through the portal of experience.
As we've witnessed so clearly π in the news lately, an MBA doesn't guarantee the ability to successfully run a company, just as reading, writing and consulting about leadership doesn't always translate to an ability to lead in the real world.
If your only goal & focus in entering a training program is to 'get to the end' - to the designation, the stamp of approval, the certificate, and permission to βdo the thingβ - you're going to miss out on the very thing that will make you a potent & effective healer with last & legacy = Authenticity. β¨
