The Dawning of Citizen-Healers
β¨The Dawning of Citizen-Healers β¨
Once people step onto their healing path, many open to discover their innate healer and called to support the healing of others. People enter as lawyers, consultants and venture capitalists... and along the way develop an expanded sense of themselves, their spiritual path and their own unique way of being of service to the healing of the world. π
But when you have no background or official training in the art of healing, where do you begin?
1 - Begin with Yourself. π
Your ability to hold space for the healing of others is directly correlated with your personal clarity, self-awareness and willingness to always be learning, growing and working on your own healing with humility and a beginner's mind.
2 - Learn from the Elders. β° We live in a moment where the appearance of authority is frequently selected over authentic, embodied experience. But there are no shortcuts to wisdom - it is earned & cultivated over decades of apprenticeship. Embrace opportunities to sit with, learn from and be in the presence of healers & teachers who hold their craft with the depth & integrity of lived experience.
3 - Slow Down. ππ½ Lay a calm, strong, deliberate foundation of the four pillars in your own life and be conscious of your physical, mental, emotional health and connection to source/spirit. Your service & contribution to the world can adapt and change if it rests on a stable, solid, lasting foundation. Your practice will be a living expression & reflection of your spirit - discern, prepare... take your time.
4 - Widen the Stage. πΏ We limit ourselves when we confine our listening and learning to academia alone, or value credentials & certifications over having our hands in the rich mud of life. Our teachers are everywhere: the animal kingdom, plant allies, ancient cultures and indigenous tradition hold deep medicine for the modern mind. Invite narratives of heart, soul, myth and the natural world back onto a stage currently dominated by human intellect.
5 - Healing Fluency. β₯οΈ Attaining a working fluency of healing through diverse personal experience will enable you to work with integrity and support a greater number of people. Be curious, always learning new perspectives and looking through different lenses. Somatic practices, movement arts, parts work, attachment theory, coaching, guiding - your ability to support others will benefit by learning from those who have achieved mastery in their craft.
β¨The moment is calling for all of us to embrace diverse pathways & support the healing of the world. One day soon practicing our soul-work and cultivating compassion will become as normalized as working out at the gym... bringing science & spirit together and restoring a sense of integrated wholeness, creativity, beauty and meaning to our culture. π
