Microdosing for Longevity, Youthfulness & Vitality
Last week I was waiting for my eye doctor when two assistants poked their heads into the waiting room. One looked down at my intake form on her clipboard, then back up at me: “Is this age correct, honey?? If it is, we all want to know what you’re doing!”
And within our microdosing community, it’s definitely not just me.
I’ve had the gift and honor of working with over 900+ individuals, supporting them in their microdosing journey… and one of the kind-of-secret, not-yet-very-talked-about benefits of microdosing is its anti-aging and longevity effect. Over time, I witness participants become remarkably lighter in energy - more radiant, open and youthful - and I think a few factors are at play.…
1 - Microdosing imparts greater physical, mental and emotional resilience. By enhancing our innate resilience and coping more fluidly with external stressors, we lower the stress we take into our physical and energetic bodies. The less we ‘sweat the small stuff',’ the greater our capacity for the frequencies of happiness, wonder, love, generosity and joy. Nothing ages us faster than constant, chronic stress, worry and anxiety - when we are resourced to better manage and cope with disappointment, change, and forces beyond our control, we are better able to maintain our vitality.
2 - Novelty is the ultimate youthful elixir! One of the keys to keeping your mind & intellect nimble, open and resilient is enhancing its neuroplasticity - the more we can keep our minds fluid and creative, the less prone we are to depression, addiction, rumination and looping thoughts. Mushrooms naturally open our minds to new ideas, connections and possibilities - we learn to welcome and appreciate change rather than fear or resist it. When someone is free and open, it shows in their face, their eyes, their body language and energy. Babies and animals can feel it; people feel safe and enlivened around it.
3 - Microdosing helps us cultivate the frequency of peace. If you’ve ever been in the presence of longtime contemplative practitioners or bodyworkers, there is often a remarkable lightness and childlike presence to their energy. I’ve sat with meditation teachers well into their 80s who had the presence and liveliness of a seven year old! When you cultivate and carry within you a lasting feeling and frequency of peace, it shows in your face and expands your aura.
4 - Anti-inflammatory & nervous system benefits - Mushroom practice is showing remarkable results with inflammatory conditions, chronic pain and nervous system dysregulation. When your body and energy is soothed, calm and able to rest and restore itself, our mitochondria - those little energy super-engines! - can do their thing. Just as in nature, mushrooms remediate and detoxify us, lowering inflammation and activating our innate healing potential. They remediate and ‘clean house’ so we can receive the deep rest and healing we need to restore ourselves.
5 - “The Positive Cascade.” I’ve witnessed so many people - almost effortlessly - lose weight, look younger, and feel more radiant thanks to a cascade of benefits from mushroom practice. When we feel more uplifted and energetic, we exercise and contribute more — and as a result we sleep better — then as a result we eat better — then as a result we choose more nourishing and supportive lifestyle practices. Just like mushrooms, this transformation is often imperceptible and subterranean, until one year later we suddenly look up and realize everything about us looks, feels and is brighter and lighter. This is the slow magic of nature!
6 - Letting go of alcohol and other toxins. Alcohol, chemicals and preservatives are incredibly aging to our skin and physical bodies. Alcohol especially disrupts our energy and frequency, negatively impacts our healing, and - in my experience - is one of the most important things we must let go of if we wish to maintain our youthfulness and regenerative abilities. Alcohol and many pharmaceuticals dull our shine and diminish our body’s ability to heal from within. It’s been remarkable to see how frequently and, again, effortlessly people seem to let go of alcohol once they begin a committed microdosing practice.
7 - Up-leveled Standards, baby! Mushrooms are Big Honesty, and they can show us where and how we are out of alignment in a hurry. This is “the work” part of healing work, but if we are able to meet the medicine with trust and courage, it will help us step fully into ourselves, our spirits, and into the purpose of why we are uniquely here. Once people begin microdosing and come into their own, they let go of outdated beliefs, patterns and stories, ditch toxic relationships, break ancestral trauma-patterns, heal abuse, trauma and self-limiting beliefs - they grow in self-confidence and self-knowledge, become enduringly secure in who they are, and raise the bar on their expectations for life. Diminishing and inauthentic relationships gotta go. Dishonesty: out. Settling & tolerating disrespect: bye bye! You’ll be surprised how much lighter, freer, happier, and radiant you become once you evolve into a life of higher standards.
8 - A Softening occurs. I love witnessing people soften as they deepen their relationship with the medicine. People who formerly had the countenance of ‘crossed arms’ - hard, self-protective, defensive shells - soften and grow into a greater trust, self-confidence and presence within themselves. A re-balancing between the masculine and feminine energies takes place. They no longer need to fight and strive and strain to control life - so exhausting & aging! - and instead they can flow and bend with it. They become more magnetic, receptive and open to life’s magic - shifting away from the energy of fear, control and defensiveness and toward the energy of curiosity, creativity, openness and expansion.
And ps. Don’t mistake ‘softening’ for ‘being soft’ - lol, on the contrary! As you become energetically aligned and attuned, you’ll develop the ability to read the energy of others… and with this you’ll recognize that behind control, judgement and rigidity lies fear. Animals know this intuitively. Softness, on the other hand, presents as self-assuredness - a peace, ease and comfort in one’s skin - and an energy of invitation and allowance. Fear is conditioned into us; Softness and safety is our birthright.
Who knew mushrooms could be a fountain of youth!?
In the coming years, I believe mushroom practice and microdosing will become as normalized as going to the gym or your local yoga studio, part of a regular self-care and wellness routine, and regarded as one of the most potent preventative medicines we have to ward off cognitive decline and age-related losses in our intellectual functioning. A vibrant, curious, creative and joyful mind keeps us young - mentally, spiritually, emotionally - and will help our generations redefine what is possible for our 60s, 70s and 80s and beyond… A bright youthful spirit at any age.
