Big Honesty in Healing & Growth
✨ When I reflect on my most profound mentors - from childhood, teens, to early adulthood and beyond - I realize they hold a common thread: they all really, really irritated me at various points. 😖
Among their many annoyances were:
- Asking me to do things where I was certain to fail
- Making me do seemingly inane things for them that didn't seem to have any point
- Saying no
- Putting me in situations where I was embarrassed, uncomfortable, and had no clue what I was doing or how I got there 😆
- Telling me truths I didn't want to hear
In hindsight their being irritating was to:
- Make me stretch and grow 🌱
- An excuse to spend time with me, teaching & investing their wisdom in me
- Motivate me to prove I could do it without them
- Prove that I could fail or lose and still survive, giving me the gift of resilience and fortitude
- Serve as a mirror, provide honest tough love and deeply see my strengths and shadows
♥️ Personal Development happens in relationships - in experience - in all the shapes and forms of human connection. Life has taught me that the people who most love you are often the brave few willing to tell you the truth - those who humble you, push you beyond your complacency & excuses - and see you & your potential with a scope & clarity beyond what you presently hold for yourself. People and experiences who illuminate both your unique strengths as well as your shadows are rare gems. 💎
When someone disappoints you, triggers something deep inside you, expects better of you, or even really, really annoys you --- be curious! These experiences help mold and shape us into integrity, refine our character, and force us to set healthy boundaries for our long-term lasting sustainability.
We're entering a moment of Collective Shadow Work, when all of us are being asked to stretch, grow, decondition and adapt to changes in our lives and society. The journey is personal, humbling, and bewildering in moments, but on the other side is mastery over one's own life, purpose, and a destiny deeply anchored within our soul. 🌅
