Microdosing: Empowered Healing 🌅

I have a brand new client to microdosing - let’s call her Cassie - who so gorgeously illustrates both how sacred mushroom practice is so entirely unlike conventional prescription medicines and how this moment is calling us to step up and into a truly empowered form of healing.

Cassie is 50ish and for over three decades has been on and off prescription medicines for depression and mood swings. Lately she’s been sinking into what she described as a familiar decline and depression loop - feeling increasingly heavy, despondent, and experiencing a lot of grief and dark moods. She was curious about microdosing, both to alleviate some of these symptoms as well as develop her spiritual connection… an ‘intention-combination’ I see showing up increasingly on my intake forms. Cassie knew from experience that if she went to her regular doctor she’d “just be given more pills” and she was ready to try something different.

After setting her goals and intentions and creating a structured protocol to begin her practice, Cassie took her first microdose on a weekend day where she had lots of free time, spaciousness and could be outdoors in nature — perfect. But the next day Cassie messaged me to let me know she “was disappointed.” Instead of feeling the lightness and uplift she was hoping for, she felt increasingly dark, listless and energetically heavy. She expressed she didn’t think the mushrooms were working for her, and wondered if she should continue after a disappointing first day.

On our initial intake call it was obvious to me that Cassie was an exceptionally open, intuitively gifted person - like so many clients I’ve worked with over the years, her sensitivity and gifts had largely been a liability in this modern world… but with intention, grounding and support, those gifts could be harnessed both for her healing and the spiritual connection and guidance she craved. Cassie already had an active dream life - another beautiful sign of spiritual connection - and it was decided she would take her question to her dreams. “Is microdosing the right path for me? And if it is, why did I have this experience and feeling?”

The next day Cassie messaged to say her dream answered. “I was inside a beautiful home. And then there was a dog who came into the house. I loved the dog, but it was covered with fleas - dirty and mangy - and didn’t belong inside like that.” She paused. “And when I woke up I sat with the dream and here is what it told me: I am not ready for the medicine. Yet. I can be, but I have to do the work of taking better care of myself first, taking better care of my body. The day I microdosed, and most days actually, I ate like crap. I actually ate FAST FOOD on the day I microdosed. And it’s no wonder spirit gave me this mirror - It made me feel through my body, and how little I care for it.”

👏 THIS - IS - IT! 👏

“So I know it’s not the mushrooms, it’s me. To be able to receive the connection I want with the medicine there is some work I need to do first to cleanse and heal my body. To get it ready. So I think that’s what I need to do first, and then I can begin to microdose.”

I am so inspired by Cassie’s awareness and willingness to listen to the medicine — she could have stopped short and blamed the mushrooms, or quit in disappointment when they didn’t offer her miraculous results after one day. But she stayed open and willing to listen, and in doing so realized this WAS the medicine absolutely working to support her… holding up a mirror of truth, and strong guidance that her medicine was to love and nourish her body.

Nature is always speaking to us, and even when we think practice “isn’t working” - especially when we think it isn’t working! - it is always pointing us toward our healing. Mushrooms especially have an ability to zero in on exactly where we most need healing; it’s not always linear or direct, but if we’re willing to attune our listening to nature and spirit’s voice, the communication becomes clear.

If we are craving radiance, vitality, glowing health, sharp intuition, clean energy and a strong, unwavering connection to source and spirit, we must step up onto an empowered path of healing where we are in relationship and co-creating our experience. We cannot poison our bodies with alcohol, sugar, fake “food,” and synthetic drugs and expect spirit to do all the heavy lifting. Nourishing and caring for ourselves is one of the greatest ways we can honor spirit and show appreciation for the rich intelligence and innate, wise healing codes within our human bodies. Cheers to all of you staying open, being curious, learning, growing and coming back home to yourselves with nature’s support - 👏. Truly inspiring.
