Ground to Grow: Microdosing as Foundational Soul Work

A growing but not altogether surprising trend my colleagues and I are seeing is individuals becoming destabilized after a high dose journey experience, especially with the “big” medicines of 5-Meo-DMT and ayahuasca. With very little to no preparation - very little healing or contemplative work in their background - they hopped into a weekend ceremony with magical expectations. Instead, they had lifetimes of dense energies spring forth, became overwhelmed with latent feeling & emotion, or had their already-substantial egos inflated to the point of messianic levels.

I cannot emphasize this enough: When it comes to our healing and growth… SLOW and STEADY is the way. Begin with the body. Begin with the breath. Get grounded in your experience of your physical body and get to know yourself, both shadows and light. Practice getting into alignment in your life, practice gaining emotional intelligence and mastery, and learn to self-regulate and resource. In my experience, if you find yourself “disappointed” by what the medicine is - or isn’t - giving you, a wonderful inquiry is: What am I bringing to the process? How much did I prepare, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually?

This work - this communion with nature, the earth and spirit - is timeless and ancient. It is both past & future, and more powerful, intelligent and wise than we can comprehend. When we bring humility, honor and respect to the journey - hold it as special and sacred - and bring a spirit of curiosity & partnership to our relationship with the medicine, we are more likely to receive the lessons, gifts and blessings we’re ready and prepared to integrate into our earthly lives.

Through the eclipse portal we just collectively moved through, much of the dense sediment, muck and shadow have been stirred up and surfaced in our lives, individually and collectively. The collective human field is verrrrry heavy right now. Very dense. Where are you judging and shaming others rather than choosing to be kind? Where are you centering yourself and your own perspective & agenda rather than contributing commensurately? Are you spending equal time giving to this life as you are demanding it meet you on your terms? It’s even more important than usual to GROUND, cultivate awareness, move and speak slowly. Be intentional and precise with our words and expression. Bring balance to our energy and more care for things in our lives. Allow your awareness to expand beyond yourself in this important moment.

One of the reasons I love and am so passionate about mushroom practice is because - to me - it is soul-level work. It’s clever and creative, wise and non-linear and will show you - in a unique language crafted exactly for you - the medicine your soul needs. It’s earthly and rich and real and working at this level sets the foundations for our entire lives. When we try to skip ahead and move straight to the ascension practices - huge journeys, odd entitlement and sky-high expectations - we have not created the deep roots or woven the wide net to hold it all. Microdosing to me is the quiet, daily, humbling, chop wood/carry water practice that - in its very elegant simplicity, reveals us: who we are, what we’re here to do, our unique gifts and perhaps most importantly —> directly points us to where we most need balance, healing and love.

And then, once we have that - a grounded, wide, deep and resourced field - then and only then can we begin our ascension moving from root to crown, body to spirit, earth to ether. Think of microdosing as the Pilgrimage… the walk to Eleusis… the Olympian’s training… the Ritual of preparation we do to honor the medicine and prove our readiness to spirit. Each day becoming more grounded, more devoted, more “like” the medicine until it simply becomes one and the same as who we are. That’s when you’ll know you are ready.
